CLEVELAND, OH -- Shane Bieber got off to a hot start, striking out four of his first five batters, before giving up five runs in the second inning. Brett Gardner cranked a two-run blast, followed by DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit driving in a combined three runs. The Indians had a big inning of their own, driving in four runs in the sixth to jolt themselves back into the game. The Indians tied the game in the seventh after Jake Bauers had the green light on a 3-0 count, launching a solo home run to center field. The game continued on into the tenth inning, when Hicks put the Yankees on top on an RBI double, driving in Cameron Maybin. Stephen Tarpley shut the door on the tribe in the tenth, striking out the side as the visiting Yankees sneak by the Indians 7-6.

The tribe bullpen came in to relieve Shane Bieber in the second inning, and provided 6 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. Oliver Perez was hit with a loss after giving up the go-ahead run in extras. Jason Kipnis left the game with right hip tightness and was replaced by Mike Freeman. Freeman made an immediate impact, launching a two-run homer in the fifth. This was Freeman's first career home run as a member of the Cleveland Indians, and just his second long ball of his career.

The Cleveland Indians will have Monday off before hosting the Cincinnati Reds for a short two-game interleague series. Trevor Bauer will take the ball for the home town tribe, facing off against Reds' starter Luis Castillo. First pitch is set for 7:10 PM ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
