Notes from Arizona

-W less than 2 weeks away from Opening Day Indians GM Mike Chernoff sat down with the media to breakdown the team’s roster and how he feels about this year’s edition of the team.

-Chernoff is excited about the prospect of having a top ten minor league system as its been ranked this week by multiple publications. Most of the prospects are of the younger variety but it points to the direction that Chernoff and his group is working towards building a team that can contend for years to come.

-The only negative coming from down below is the back injury to number 1 prospect P Triston McKenzie. McKenzie has a back strain and should be fine in little over a month, but this is the 2nd spring in a row that the hard throwing hurler will be sidelined during the spring. Last year it was a forearm injury. Long term the team doesn’t seem concerned, but this will once again slow down the process for McKenzie.

-Francisco Lindor played in a “controlled” minor league game on Wednesday. He was 0-3 and jogged but didn’t run hard. This is another positive step for Lindor as he’s pushing to be ready for the regular season.

-Bradley Zimmer also played in the minor league game and went 0-1 with 2 walks. Zimmer has pushed himself like never to get ready for the season. All signs are pointing towards him being able to play more over the next few days.

-Wednesday was a split squad day for the Tribe as they split on the day. At home Trevor Bauer lead the team to a 9-3 win over Milwaukee. Bauer fanned 10 in 4.2 innings pitched. He allowed 4 hits, 3 earned runs, with 1 walk. Hanley Ramirez drove in 2 runs with an RBI single in the 1st. Roberto Perez had a solo homer in the 3rd.

-The road game didn’t go as well as Cody Anderson was roughed up by the Royals. In an inning plus Anderson allowed 4 hits, 6 runs with 2 of them earned, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. It was Anderson’s first start of the spring. Jake Bauers was 2-3 with a 2-run double, and a 3 run homer. Greg Allen was 3-3 for as well with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
