On his show's broadcast Monday, Tucker Carlson said that it wasn't easy to harshly criticize someone who lost both of their legs in the service of their country fighting in the war in Iraq.

“You’re not supposed to criticize Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) in any way because she once served in the military,” Carlson said Monday night.

It turns out that he was right.

The Fox News host called Duckworth “a deeply silly and unimpressive person” and insinuated she and other Democratic leaders “actually hate America.” The Illinois Senator is a rumored possibility to be presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's choice for Vice President.

The Army veteran didn't waste time in responding to Carlson's allegations.

As Duckworth's star continues to rise, attacks like Carlson's may become more regular as a national candidate campaigning against President Donald Trump. Since being elected to the Senate in 2016, Duckworth has cited her combat experience when questioned by Republicans about Democrats lack of patriotism. “I left parts of my body in Iraq fighting terrorists,” Duckworth replied when a Republican Congressman said the Democrats were "in love with terrorists."

Carlson, who has endured numerous calls for advertisers to boycott his show over his statements on race and the protests that followed George Floyd’s death in late May, faced quick criticism for questioning Duckworth’s patriotism.
