Two girls – ages 14 and 12 – have died after an incident involving a hammock Sunday.

It was around 7:45 p.m. when authorities responded to a call of a girl trapped underneath some bricks on Berkshire Road. Upon their arrival, first responders learned the two girls were in a hammock that was tied to a tree and a brick pillar. The city’s director of communications stated that the brick pillar collapsed and fell on the girls.

Scout Scaravilli, 14, and her sister Chasey, 12, died in the accident at their Cleveland Heights home, according to a statement from the Hathaway Brown School, an all-girls school in Shaker Heights that the girls attended.

“The entire HB community is saddened by the loss of the Scaravilli sisters; they will be greatly missed by so many friends, classmates, and teachers,” said Head of School Fran Bisselle. “Our thoughts and prayers are dedicated to their family,” said the school in a statement. Also according to the statement the school is developing grief counseling opportunities for students and parents. The school is also inviting students, parents and staff to campus for a memorial Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
