The shutdown is now two weeks old, and the effects are becoming a reality for Americans. In addition to the 800,000 government workers who aren't getting paychecks, the IRS isn't distributing tax forms, national parks are open but not maintained, prison employees are working and not getting paid, and NASA is closed.

Like it or not, President Trump has tied the fate of his country's budget to funding for a wall on the US/Mexico border. If the partisan rhetoric is stripped away, Americans can agree that security is needed for one of the longest borders in the world.
