Michael Deemer, President & CEO from The Downtown Cleveland Alliance spoke to Bill about Lots of activity taking place in Cleveland’s core city neighborhood and things to do in Downtown Cleveland heading into the fall?

Our Welcome Back to Downtown Campaign is still in full swing. Building on a very eventful summer, Downtown Cleveland has a great lineup of events and things to do this fall. 

  • 16 New restaurants and cafes have opened this year
    • Including Goma, Aqua Di Luca, Milk & Honey
    • Flats East Bank just announced plans to open its first Cherie Wine Bar and Lounge by Thanksgiving
    • Restaurants continuing to find opportunities in Downtown Cleveland
    • Make reservations if you plan to patronize the restaurants, especially on the weekends. 
  • Lion King just had opening night this weekend in Playhouse Square
    • Show is running through October 15th and some tickets are still available
    • Shows back up and running in PHS, the 2nd largest Broadway tour series outside of NY.
    • Continue to check Playhousesquare.org for upcoming shows and announcements
  • 5th Street arcades is stacked with unique local retailers. Come downtown for your fall shopping and support Downtown Cleveland’s small business community. 

Fall also means voting season. Michael, how is DCA working to get folks out to the polls?

Glad you mentioned voting because this is a critical time for our city as we navigate our recovery. This year’s mayoral election will be especially paramount to Downtown Cleveland’s future. 

  • General election is November 2nd
  • The registration deadline is closed now but DCA has been supporting voter registration efforts
  • Published first-ever Voter Education Guide, Public Policy Agenda and responses to a candidate questionnaire.
    • Help inform decisions, locating precincts, note the deadlines for registration & voting and provide platform for candidates to share how their administrations plan to impact Downtown.
    • Absentee voting begins October 7th
