A Canadian vibrator manufacturer has been fined almost three million dollars after a judge found they were “tracking customers without their knowledge.”
WeVibe was force pay customers who’d used their “smart vibrators” over $7,000 each.
In the class action lawsuit, it was revealed that the company had been collecting data…like how often the app-driven vibe was used and to “what intensity”…and sending the intimate data back to Standard Innovation, who then know about sexual habits of their users.
Standard Innovation says the data was only used for “diagnostic purposes,” but the fact that they appeared not to alert customers to what was being collected turned out to be something customers weren’t big fans of.
