The Cleveland Guardians are poised to begin a weekend series Friday night with the Twins in Downtown Minneapolis, this, a day after their afternoon, get-away day contest against the White Sox was postponed Wednesday afternoon in Chicago due to a COVID outbreak among uniformed staff members. Below is a statement released by Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti in light of Manager Terry Francona and other coaches being placed into the MLB Health and Safety protocols:
“As a result of recent events, numerous members of our Major League coaching staff are currently in MLB Health and Safety protocols. We continue to test team personnel and conduct contract tracing for the affected individuals. Carl Willis will serve as acting manager this weekend in Minneapolis and will be supported by other individuals throughout the organization until the members of our coaching staff are able to rejoin the team.”
