A Virginia high school senior who was born without legs wins the state wrestling championship. Adonis Lattimore was born without a right leg and his left leg ends at the middle of his thigh, but the Landstown High School senior didn’t let that keep him from placing first in his weight category at the Virginia High School League Class Six Championships this past weekend.
In a video posted online of the very end of the competition, Lattimore shakes his opponent’s hand and has his arm raised by the official, marking his victory, as the audience erupts in applause. “Amazing,” says Lattimore’s coach, James Sanderlin about the win. "He did all the work. I just get to be a part of the journey.” The win is the finale of a season where Lattimore finished with 32 wins and seven losses.
The teen’s success surprised nearly everyone, except Lattimore himself. He credits his success to hard work and says with hard work, you can do anything, “Even win a state championship without legs."
