Some folks follow their dreams.
You could say Todd Thompson was just tagging only with his dad. It was on a Saturday several decades ago that his father took him to see a matinee screening of Star Wars in their hometown of Cleveland. Before the credits had finished rolling, Todd knew what he wanted to do with his life. Soon he was making short films with his friends, with the help of family and friends, and his grandfather’s 8mm camera.
He would go on to become an award-winning director, producer and writer for such studios as The Walt Disney Company, Pixar and Lucasfilm.
On Sunday, March 26, Todd’s Cleveland-born dreams will come home, when his latest film, a Beatles documentary, will be featured at the Cleveland International Film Festival.
The documentary “PRE FAB!” follows how drummer Colin Hanton joined John Lennon in the band that would eventually turn into The Beatles. Hanton joined Lennon in The Quarry Men and acts as the documentary’s guide as he takes viewers through the early days of Skiffle music. The film fills in one of the last pieces of the iconic band’s history, the period before they officially became the band known as The Beatles.
“Not only do I attribute a lot of my creative inspiration to growing up in Cleveland, but the film is a perfect fit for the town named Rock-n-Roll Capital of the world,” Thompson said.
PRE FAB! will screen at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at the KeyBank State Theater.
