A 10-year-old Cumberland, Rhode Island resident Scarlett Doumato sent a partially consumed Oreo cookie and a few carrot sticks to the town's police department to see if they could be tested for Santa's DNA. She wanted to find out if Santa was real.

In a letter, she wrote, “I took a sample of a cookie and carrots that I left for Santa and the raindeer [sic] on Christmas Eve and I was wondering if you could take a sample of DNA and see if Santa is real?”

The police chief sent the "evidence" for examination to the state's Department of Health-Forensic Sciences unit. The results are "pending."
