PARMA - Padua students, faculty and staff raised $8,309.86 during the high school's 51st annual Coin Wars competition on Tuesday. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be going to charities, including local homeless shelters, food pantries and many other worthy causes.
During their annual Coin Wars competition, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and faculty/staff compete against each other to raise the most money. Students bring bags full of coins and cash they saved or collected throughout the year. The seniors raised the most money this year followed by the freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
Christmas For Others is the largest student-run fundraiser in Northeast Ohio. It is a program designed to make the holidays brighter for the less fortunate. Coin Wars is just one of the many events the school does during the month of December. In addition to the $8,309.86 from Coin Wars, Padua High raised an additional $15,000-$20,000 for the needy by holding a Spaghetti Dinner, plus many other fundraisers. Students also collect thousands of items (food, clothing, books and toys) for the underprivileged. The donations will be distributed to dozens of worthy causes this month.
