A California woman and her two dogs are dead after they were struck by lightning on Wednesday, authorities say.
The woman, whose name hasn't been released, was walking her dogs near Pico Rivera's San Gabriel River at about 8:50 a.m. when the strike occurred, police say. The bodies of all three were found on a walking path a short time later, according to Pico Rivera City Manager Steve Carmona.
The incident has prompted city officials to warn residents to stay indoors until a storm that's moved in over the area has passed. "I'm scared," says resident Mary Perez. "I told my granddaughter and her friend, she's not walking to school, I'm taking her. I think more about the lightning. Not that I never thought about it. I didn't think it could really do that. It's just awful.
