Shaker School Librarian Facing Felony Sex Charges

(Shaker Heights) - A librarian in the Shaker Heights City Schools has been put on paid leave, this after school district officials learned that the librarian is facing felony sex charges.

A letter sent to parents by the superintendent of the Shaker Heights schools said that they learned on Friday that Joan Meyer, a librarian at Onaway Elementary School, is charged in Washington, DC with felony child sex abuse, this for an alleged relationship she had back in 2009 with a teenager.

The letter tries to reassure parents, saying, “While we cannot discuss the specifics of the case, we know no part of these allegations involve the 16 months that Ms. Meyer has worked in the Shaker Heights Schools.” The letter also says, “During the hiring process, Ms. Meyer’s references were contacted and her employment history was reviewed. In addition, Ms. Meyer passed a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Record Check."
