NE Ohio Company Smucker Sells Off Crisco Brand

(Orrville) - The northeast-Ohio based owner of the Crisco brand is selling it.

J.M. Smucker is selling the Crisco oils and shortening business, along with manufacturing facilities in Cincinnati, to B&G Foods.

B&G owns brands such as Green Giant, Cream of Wheat, B&M Baked Beans, and Ortega.

Smucker, based in the Wayne County community of Orville, says the divestiture of cooking oils aligns with the company's plan to focus on the platforms of coffee, snacking, and pet foods.

Crisco had been owned by Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble, until it and Jif peanut butter were spun off, and that company then merged with Smucker in 2002.
