Today in 1977,eighteen white limousines and a white hearse rode through the streets of Memphis, Tennessee,to take Elvis Presley to his grave. Sadly, two girls were killed and another was injured by a runaway car outside the gates of Graceland, where 75,000 fans had gathered. The amount of flowers delivered by FTD to Graceland for the funeral surpassed the number for any other event in the company's history. Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' manager, surprised the mourners by showing up in short sleeves and a baseball cap. Two days after the burial service, Elvis' body and his mother's body were moved to a burial site on the grounds of Graceland, after there were repeated attempts to break into the mausoleum where his body had originally been placed.
