No Jury Trials In Cuyahoga County Until At Least September

(Cleveland) - For at least another month, there will be no criminal jury trials in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.. On Monday, judges voted to continue the hold on jury trials until at least September 21st.

The extension of the current hold is a result of the second wave of coronavirus cases in the county.

There hasn't been a jury trial in the Court of Common Pleas since March. The court has been holding hearings online, and the county has kept down the population at the jail by finding ways to release some non-violent and low-level offenders.

The court had planned to resume jury trials next Monday, August 10.

Bench trials, in which a judge renders the verdict, can still be held.
