Cities, counties and states across the country are cash-strapped thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and many are starting to consider hikes in taxes to help replenish the coffers.
Many of the aforementioned have realized that furloughs, spending cuts and layoffs have not successfully remedied their financial ills and taxes could go up at all levels of government.
The city of Philadelphia has already raised wage taxes on workers who live outside the city and increased parking fees. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has proposed a possible property tax hike as her city deals with a 700 million dollar shortfall.
The city of Nashville even went as far as increasing property taxes by 34 percent in an effort to pay down rising public education costs.
