A wave of NYPD officers may call out sick on the 4th of July in response to what they see as rising anti-police sentiment.
Multiple officers tell the New York Post there are fliers going around urging officers not to show up to work on a day where the city sees heightened security for the fireworks show.
Police union leaders and the NYPD say officers will be there to protect New York City. PBA President Patrick Lynch, however, said the “blue flu” has been a joke for generations, but “the situation we are in right now is no joke” and NYC cops “have reached the breaking point.
Over the past few weeks, we have been attacked in the streets, demonized in the media and denigrated by practically every politician in this city.”
