Ohio Jobless Filings Are Down, But Still At Record Levels

(Columbus) - Ohio's jobless numbers for the past week are out, and there are some trends you can see.

Every week for the last four weeks, the numbers of filings for unemployment insurance have gone down.

  • This past week, 61.083
  • The week before, 92,920
  • The week before that, 109,369
  • A month ago, 158,678

Those numbers may jump up soon, as those who are self-employed or are independent contractors, have pre-registered, but have not yet been counted, as the state is still building the system to help them.

In the last seven weeks, since the pandemic began, 1,118,569 have filed with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services for unemployment. That's more than the total who have filed over the last three years.

In the last seven weeks, the state has paid out over $1.9 billion.
