Westlake, Ohio - Between the late night of 4/19/19 and early morning of 4/22/19, several unlocked vehicles in the city were entered while parked in residential driveways and at least in one case a home garage.Vehicles on East and West Melrose, Belmont, Northglen, Chadwick, and Bassett were rummaged through.2 vehicles, one from East Melrose and the other from Northglen, were stolen.The thieves took advantage of residents leaving their car doors unlocked and took spare change and sunglasses.On 4/20 Cleveland PD recovered one of the stolen vehicles on W.100th St in Cleveland.Several juveniles were arrested after being found sleeping in the car.They were charged through juvenile court for receiving stolen property.The other vehicle was recovered unoccupied in Cleveland on 4/24/19.The recovered vehicle was processed for latent evidence.***The Westlake Police Dept. urges residents and visitors to hide valuables and lock vehicles when unattended – no matter if parked in a driveway or parking lot.It is also important to report suspicious activity, persons or vehicles at the time you notice them.Contact the non-emergency phone line at 440-871-3311 so officers can be dispatched to check on the situation. ***

On 4/23/19 at approx. 8:12PM a jogger on Viking Parkway reported that a vehicle had almost struck him, then turned around and tried to hit him again.According to the complainant, he had to jump off the road to get out of the way of the car.The jogger did obtain the plate of the vehicle.Officers recovered video surveillance in the area and identified the driver of the vehicle as a juvenile female.Investigators are referring the case to juvenile prosecutors to determine charges.

On 4/25/19 at approx. 11pm WPD picked up a female on a warrant for driving under suspension.She was transported to the Westlake Jail where she was booked.During this process a corrections officer located several pills in the 34yo’s possession.This added a misdemeanor charge of possession of drugs to the Cleveland resident’s docket.

On March 23rd, 2019 WPD responded to a report of an assault in the Emergency Department at UH St. John Medical Center.A patient, transported there after being involved in a domestic violence incident earlier, had struck a nurse in the head.The suspect was restrained and left at the hospital for treatment.A felony assault warrant was received for the suspect soon after.On 4/26/19 at approx. 8AM an officer served the warrant on Bay Landing Dr.The suspect, a 51yo Westlake resident, was arrested for the warrant.Suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also located in her vehicle which resulted in additional misdemeanor charges.
