Solon Police Blotter: Honey Steals Diapers and Beer

Solon, OH - Theft: (34310 Aurora Rd. Market District) April 18th. 2019 at 12:21 PM. Solon Police received a call from an employee of Market District who reported that they had a male attempt to leave the store without paying for $132.95 worth of merchandise. The male was last seen running north on SR 91. The male was wearing a yellow jacket and had duct tape on his pants. The male was also carrying a hardhat. Responding officers observed a male matching the description walking on SR 91. The male was detained and transported back to Market District. The employee at Market District was able to make a positive identification. Calvin Honey, 52 from Cleveland was arrested and transported to the Solon Correction Center. Mr. Honey attempted to leave the store with diapers and beer. When he was confronted to return to the store he stated “No I’m gone” and took off running.

OVI/BAC/Open Container/Speed: (Liberty Rd.) April 18th, 2019 at 8:05 PM. A Solon Police Officer on patrol observed a vehicle on Bainbridge Rd. travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar confirmed that the vehicle was travelling at 49 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone. As the officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle he witnessed the vehicle cross the double yellow line. As they approached the intersection of Liberty Rd. the operator activated the right turn signal and then switched to the left turn signal and made a southbound turn on Liberty Rd. The vehicle was stopped on Liberty Rd. south of Bainbridge Rd. During conversation, the operator indicated that he was going to Hudson. When asked about the confusion with the turn signals, the operator stated “because I, I was, I’m, I’m fine”. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle and/or operator. The operator admitted to drinking “one beer”. A series of field tests were performed and indicated impairment. Richard Renner, 62 from Chagrin Falls was arrested and taken to the Solon Correction Center. A breath test was performed with a reading of .138. Subsequent inspection of the vehicle uncovered an open container of alcohol.

OVI/BAC/Marked Lanes: (Aurora Rd.) April 19th, 2019 at 3:07 AM.A Solon Police officer on patrol was behind a vehicle eastbound near Liberty Rd. when he observed a vehicle go left of center into the westbound lanes and almost strike a mailbox. The vehicle was stopped east of Liberty Rd. Upon approaching the vehicle a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle and/or operator. The operator stated that she was coming from Lakewood and had consumed a couple of beers. A series of field tests were performed and indicated impairment. Vickie Johnson, 33 from Aurora was arrested and taken to the Solon Correction Center. A breath test was administered with a reading of .143

OVI/Driving under Suspension (Aurora Rd.) April 19th. 2019 at 9:13 AM. Solon Police Officers were dispatched to an injury crash on Aurora Rd. in the construction zone. Upon arrival, officers learned that the striking vehicle had fled the scene and was last observed going behind a building located at 33400 Aurora Rd. The first officers on scene pulled into the parking lot at that address and witnessed the vehicle appear from behind the building and drive across the parking lot. The vehicle had heavy front end damage. Another police vehicle pulled into the lot causing the suspect vehicle to stop. The operator of the suspect vehicle began to back up stopping just prior to hitting the police vehicle. The operator of the vehicle exited her vehicle and upon being questioned indicated she did not know where she was coming from. She was asked as to what had just happened and she claimed “It was bad, bad, bad”. The operator denied consuming any alcohol or any drugs. When further questioned, she indicated that she was coming from Brecksville and was going to Brecksville. After being placed in the rear of a police vehicle a slight odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on the driver. Inside the suspect vehicle were (4) opened bottles of wine. Arrested was Molly Vorous, 37 from Brecksville. She was transported to the hospital by Solon Fire and Rescue after complaining of being injured in the crash. At the hospital a urine specimen was collected and sent for analysis.

Carrying Concealed Weapon/Weapons Under Disability/Receiving Stolen Property/Possession of Criminal Tools: (6500 Block Glenallen Ave.)April 25, 2019 at 4:03 AM. Officers of the Solon Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 6500 block of Glenallen Ave. on a complaint of an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male identified as Donnie Walker in the driveway. Mr. Walker indicated that he was there to either get money from the resident or to stay there. The resident informed the officers that she did not want Mr. Walker on her property. Mr. Walker was advised and left the property. A short time later the resident’s daughter called the police from Bedford and stated that the male was back at the residence on Glenallen. Officers once again responded and found Mr. Walker sitting on the front porch with a backpack. Mr. Walker was advised to leave the property immediately to which he complied. Mr. Walker was warned if he returned that he would be subject to arrest to which he replied “I know”. Mr. Walker left the area with his backpack. Six minutes later police officers were called again to the home. On arrival Mr. Walker was seen walking down the driveway. Mr. Walker was informed that he would now be going with the police. He was questioned about the location of his backpack and he replied that he didn’t have one. The backpack was found on the side of the residence. Inside the backpack was a loaded, sawed off shotgun. A check of the weapon discovered that it was reported stolen from Lakewood. Donnie Walker, 32 from Maple Heights was arrested and transported to the Solon Correction Center. Mr. Walker stated that the weapon was not his and that he had taken it from his son and he was just holding onto it. The original complainant indicated that Mr. Walker does not have a son.
