On 2/27/19 Police responded to a report of a vehicle into a building. On 2/22/19 officers responded to a report of a male hanging out of a vehicle parked on the side of the road on I-90 Westbound at Columbia.Officers found that the SUV was actually occupied by a female who said that she just stopped to “charge” her phone. It was also apparent that the 43 year-old female from Elyria had vomited on both herself and the ground just outside the door to her vehicle. She had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. The driver was arrested for OVI after roadside field sobriety testing. She later refused a breath test. A baggie of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia was also recovered which prompted additional drug possession charges.

On 2/23/19 at approx. 10:30 AM an officer stopped a Dodge Charger on I-90 at Cahoon for a license plate violation. The officer noticed that the driver had drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle. When asked about the pipe, the driver admitted to being in possession of marijuana as well. Further investigation revealed that the operator actually was also in possession of a felony amount of steroid pills. The least of the problems for the 27 year-old from Westlake was that he was also driving under suspension. The stop resulted in felony trafficking and possession of drugs charges as well as misdemeanor marijuana and traffic citations.

On 2/23/19 at approx. 3:30 PM officers were responding to an apparent road rage call which had occurred in the area of Westwood and Canterbury. The caller reported that the male operator of a Dodge Caravan had actually exited his vehicle, approached the complainant, started yelling at her and possibly attempted to attack her before she drove away. The suspect vehicle was still following the complainant. Unfortunately while responding to this incident with police lights and siren activated our K9 officer’s cruiser was struck at the intersection of Crocker and Detroit Roads. The impact caused a collision with 2 other vehicles. Two people and 1 police K9 were transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.A third person later transported themselves to be checked out at an ER.Our officer was treated and released. The K9 officer had to receive stitches but both have since returned to work. The intersection was closed for an hour while the crash was investigated and roadway cleaned. The prosecutor will review the case once the investigation is complete.
