Cleveland Steel and Iron Plant Ignites

Firefighters on the Job

(Cleveland) - The Arcelor-Mittal plant on Independence Road received an unscheduled visit Thursday from the Cleveland Fire Division.

A conveyor belt used in the plant's processing of coke and iron caught fire around midday. Cleveland Fire was soon on the scene, and able to isolate the fire to one area, and allowing the rest of the plant to continue operating. Once the firefighters got the blaze under control, they covered the affected area with foam to put out the rest of the fire, and to keep the area from reigniting. There were no reported injuries.

Arcelor-Mittal is a European-based company that claims to be the largest producer of steel and iron in the United States.
