(Vermilion) – A beloved high school football coach has suddenly died, leaving one Lorain County town in mourning.
Calling hours and a memorial service for Matthew Kobal, head football coach at Vermilion High School, will be held Tuesday. Coach Kobal died Friday at the age of 38.
Kobal was a 1998 graduate of Vermilion High School. After playing college football at University of Mount Union, he came back to his hometown, and was eventually named head football coach.
Kobal was also president of the Lorain County Coaches Association.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 3:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at the Vermilion High School Gymnasium. In coach’s honor, people are asked to wear purple.
