Largest Class of Priests in 14 Years Ordained in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH - It may be a sign of good things to come for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Eight men were ordained as priests Friday night in downtown Cleveland.

The diocese says it's the largest class they've had in 14 years. The men range in age from 26 to 37 years old. Seven are from Northeast Ohio and one is from South Korea.

It's welcome news for the church dealing with priest shortages worldwide. According to the Vatican, in 2008 nearly 50,000 of the world's 219,000 parishes did not have a resident priest.
