Chardon Living Memorial Park Construction To Begin

(CHARDON) - Construction on the first phase of the Chardon Living Memorial Park will begin in May, five years after three students were shot and killed and three others wounded by a Chardon High School student.  The memorial park, near Chardon High School, will feature fitness areas and a newly refurbished picnic pavilion.

When complete, the 17-acre park on Basquin Drive will also house a sledding area, a walking trail, a statue and plaques to commemorate the school shooting.  17-year old T.J. Lane walked into the school and opened fire on February 27th, 2012.  Danny Parmetor, Russell King Jr. and Demetrius Hewlin were killed.  Nick Walzak was paralyzed and Joy Rickers was shot on the backside.  Nate Mueller was grazed in the right ear.  T..J. Lane is serving a life sentence with no chance of parole.
