Democratic lawmakers are pushing legislation to limit President Trump's war powers, in light of recent military strikes between Iran and Israel.

Republican Thomas Massie and Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine are leading the efforts in the House and Senate, respectively, to restrict Trump's ability to order military actions.

The ceasefire announced by Trump earlier this week seems to have reduced the urgency of the lawmakers' campaign.

Massie's war powers resolution to prohibit U.S. involvement in Iran had 57 co-sponsors, but he indicated he would not push the measure if the ceasefire holds.

Despite the ceasefire, Democrats like Rep. Jim McGovern and Rep. Ro Khanna still want to hold a vote on limiting Trump's war powers, citing the need for congressional authorization for offensive war in Iran
