Cleveland leaders are among those paying tribute to Pope Francis.
The pope died Monday at the age of 88. Last night, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb remarked on social media that Francis was a global shepherd of compassion, justice, and humility whose legacy will continue to inspire us to care for the least among us.
Cleveland Bishop Edwards C. Malesic released a statement yesterday that said -- in part -- that Pope Francis was someone who championed environmental stewardship, promoted unity among Catholics, non-Catholics, and non-Christians, and called us all to be a global family that welcomes our brothers and sisters in need with open arms.
Cardinals are expected to meet in Rome today to discuss the Pope's funeral arrangements.
