A Georgia man is recovering after he was severely beaten with a sledgehammer -- by two men dressed as Amazon workers.
The harrowing incident occurred in Savannah, where the men carried an Amazon box to the front door of a home owned by 66-year-old George “Dick” Hardison, police say. They knocked, and when Hardison opened the door, the men forced their way inside, according to authorities. The men demanded money before beating Hardison with a sledgehammer. They ended up taking just $80, police say. Hardison had to get 14 stitches in his head.
“Based off our internal investigation, we can confirm that these individuals were not making a scheduled delivery for Amazon,” reads a statement issued by the online retailer. “People who make deliveries on behalf of Amazon do not routinely knock on doors nor ask customers to sign for packages unless already prearranged.”
