A man wearing a firefighter uniform was arrested for burglary in a Malibu evacuation zone, with LA County Sheriff Robert Luna stating, "He just got caught burglarizing a home."
The county has imposed a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. in evacuation areas, with only authorized personnel like firefighters, utility workers, and law enforcement allowed.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell mentioned that 29 people have been arrested for violating evacuation zone curfews, with some individuals impersonating firefighters to exploit victims of the tragedy.
Of the 29 arrests, 25 were in Eaton Fire zones and four in Palisades Fire zones, with one person in Eaton resisting arrest and six arrests involving additional charges like carrying concealed firearms and narcotics-related crimes.
The sheriff's department has increased staffing to 1,200 personnel to patrol evacuation zones, assist with evacuations, and prevent scammers from taking advantage of fire victims.
Approximately 105,000 people are still under evacuation orders in the fire areas.
