Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett is splitting from the party line and calling on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
On Tuesday, Doggett said Biden's debate performance failed to reassure voters he was up to the job, and hoped the President would "make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw."
He said Biden "has the opportunity to encourage a new generation of leaders".
Doggett is the first elected Democrat to call for Biden to withdraw after last week's debate.
Biden's campaign quickly responded to Doggett's statement by saying the President would "absolutely not" withdraw from the race.
