June 25th, 1984 the album Purple Rain hit store shelves - an iconic song off of an iconic soundtrack from an iconic movie. Longtime Prince friend and collaborator Sheila E. tells us the guitar solo on the song is just sick. The album would go on to be Prince s first number one, spending 24 weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart. The song Purple Rain didn t hit number one it peaked at number 2, but When Doves Cry and Let s Go Crazy were both number one singles. The album also won two Grammys, and an Oscar.
