A Minnesota state lawmaker arrested for burglary told police she was trying to recover her late father's ashes.
49-year-old Sen. Nicole Mitchell was arrested Monday after she was found inside her stepmother's home wearing black clothing and carrying a flashlight and a black backpack, which had two laptops and other items inside.
Mitchell told police she was "just trying to get a couple of my dad's things", including his ashes.
She says her stepmother has Alzheimer's and called police after she was startled.
