When it was revealed that Apple’s upcoming augmented reality headset would cost $3,000, a number of online commenters questioned whether the hefty price was an error. And it turns out they were right.
The Apple Vision Pro will actually retail for $3,499, Apple revealed on Monday. By comparison, Meta’s upcoming Quest 3 headset will sell for $499, Meta announced last week.
The difference between the two is the Apple Vision Pro will employ augmented reality instead of virtual reality, according to the company. AR is less immersive than VR and doesn’t completely remove players from their surroundings, an Apple spokesman says. Plus, the Apple headset will use hand tracking control, meaning it won’t require players to use handheld tracking devices, per the company.
The Apple Vision Pro is expected to drop in early 2024.
