A California woman who lied about being kidnapped when she was actually cheating on her husband has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Appearing in a Sacramento courtroom on Monday, Sheri Papini, 39, was also ordered to serve 36 months of supervised release and pay more than $300,000 in restitution to the California Victim Compensation Board.
After Papini disappeared in 2016, she told authorities she'd been kidnapped by two women who kept her locked inside a closet. The married mother later admitted to having spent the time with her ex-boyfriend. Authorities have said they spent more than $200,000 searching for Papini.
