Plain Dealer "Minister of Culture" Michael Heaton Has Died

(Cleveland) - Michael Heaton, the longtime Plain Dealer columnist, has died at age 66. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office says Heaton was found dead in his home in Fairview Park on Sunday.

Heaton's "Minister of Culture" column was a regular feature in the 80s and 80s in The Plain Dealer's Friday magazine section. He wrote about pop culture, hard news, and general musings.

Heaton was a Kent State graduate. He wrote for the San Francisco Examiner and People magazine before returning to his native Cleveland in the late 80s to write for The Plain Dealer.

A number of Heaton's columns were published in the Gray & Company book "Truth and Justice For Fun and Profit," co-wrote with his sister, actress Patricia Heaton, "Motherhood and Hollywood," and wrote the autobiography of TV host Mike Douglas, "I'll Be Right Back." He also wrote the script for the Hallmark Channel movie, "The Christmas Heart."

Heaton had journalism in his DNA, as his father was legendary Plain Dealer sports writer Chuck Heaton.
