- With inflation cutting into consumers discretionary spending, retailer’s inventories are piling up.
- For this July, look for the competition for consumer dollars to be quite intense.
- Amazon pulled in over $11 billion in sales on Prime Day 2021. Don’t expect other retailers sit back and watch.
- The pre-Prime Day sales have in fact already started.
Where can we expect to find the best prices for the best products from Amazon?
- Amazon products and owned brands, like Echo speakers, Kindle eReaders, Fire TV and tablets
- Select laptops and kitchen appliances, particularly on the air fryer front
- Wirecutter.com expects a slate of Apple deals, but on select products only
Where should be tread carefully?
- Cheap flat screens
- Unknown brand names
- Over-hyped products, like air fryers, and “smart” products that don’t need to be
Competing online retailers will compete
- Target’s Deal Days will run from Mon-Wed
- Macy’s Black Friday in July is in progress, runs thru Wednesday
- Best Buy’s Black Friday in July runs Mon-Wed (laptops, TVs, smartphones)
- Walmart says it will not, saying current ongoing discounts are good enough
- Note: Retailers are aware of competition’s pricing. Expect the others to match
Regarding pop-up sales/ lightening deals that disappear after a limited time?
- They usually last just a few hours, or end once limited stock is sold
- You can get alerted via push notifications on the Amazon shopping app
- There are also various deal-tracking sites (incl. wirecutter.com), and price tracking apps (like camelcamelcamel) out there to alert you specific item sales
