Tennis In The Land Returning To Jacob's Pavilion

CLEVELAND - The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Topnotch Management announced Tennis in the Land, a WTA 250 event is returning to the West Bank of the Flats at Jacob's Pavilion at Nautica August 21st though August 27th. The tournament is part of the US Open Series and takes place a week before the US Open.

Tickets for the event are now on sale. The tournament, owned and operated by Cleveland-based sports agency Topnotch Management, is Cleveland’s largest professional women’s sports event. It captured attention around the world last year when it launched Tennis in the Land in the heart of downtown Cleveland, with its stadium court featuring Cuyahoga River and city skyline views.

The week-long WTA 250 event will feature 32 of the top WTA singles players in the world, in addition to doubles and qualifying events. One of just three stand-alone WTA events in the United States, Tennis in the Land is part of the prestigious US Open Series and serves as the final opportunity for players to dial in their match fitness prior to heading to New York for the biggest tennis event of the year.

The inaugural Tennis in the Land title was captured by Anett Kontaveit, who is currently the 6th ranked player in the world, and watched live by over 4.5 million viewers around the world. Domestically, the tournament had 50 hours of live coverage across Tennis Channel and Bally’s Sports Ohio.

“If our first year was any indication, Cleveland has a strong appetite for big-time women’s sports events,” said Kyle Ross, Tournament Director of Tennis in the Land. “Last year’s attendance was amazing throughout the week and the quality of tennis was truly world-class; I’m excited to kick-off another year and continue to grow the event into one of the highlights of the downtown summer landscape.”

On the back of a very successful first inaugural year, Tennis in the Land will retain much of what fans loved both in person and on TV, with exciting plans to improve the overall event experience for the fans and players. Some of these plans include elevating the stadium experience with fully digital in-stadium walls and signage on Stadium Court, as well as developing a dynamic fan zone space, featuring music, games and more. There will also be an expansion of the seating options on the outside match courts, where dozens of matches take place throughout the tournament, and where the Qualification Rounds will take place on Saturday August 20th, which are free and open to the public.

During the week, the event will now have Day and Night Sessions, with the Night Sessions created specifically to provide an easy option for people to come by after work, have a drink with friends, and watch some world-class tennis. The Night Sessions will offer two matches each evening, at an accessible ticket price. Speaking of access, new for 2022, the tournament will partner with AXS to make ticketing as customer friendly and seamless as possible.

Tickets are now on sale for Hospitality Box and Group Packages, with Individual Tickets released for sale on May 10th. As configured for the tennis event, the Jacob’s Pavilion venue has a total capacity of approximately 2,100; in 2021 the Finals sold out, with opening Sunday and Friday both near sell-outs. Tickets and more information are available on tennisintheland.com.
