CLEVELAND - Both Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan have been honored by Major League Baseball. Rameriz was named April's "American League Player of the Month" and Kwan was named April's "American League Rookie of the Month".
Here are Ramirez's accomplishments in April.
• Batted .342 (27-for-79) with 12 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 28 RBI, nine walks and a .722 slugging percentage over 21 games.
• Became the fifth player in Major League history to record 20-or-more RBI in his team’s first 11 games of a season, joining Manny Ramírez (1999) and Hall of Famers Willie Mays (1964), Lou Gehrig (1927) and Bobby Doerr (1941).
• Delivered his 1,000th career hit on April 15th, becoming the 39th player to reach the milestone in a Cleveland uniform and the first since Carlos Santana in 2020.
• Earned his fifth career AL Player of the Week Award for the period ending April 17th, most recently accomplishing the feat last year for the week ending September 19th.
Ramírez claimed his third career AL Player of the Month Award, most recently accomplishing the feat in September 2020. The last Guardians player other than Ramírez to win AL Player of the Month was Francisco Lindor in May 2018.
Here are Kwan's accomplishments in April.
• Batted .354 (17-for-48) with 10 runs scored, five doubles, a triple, seven RBI, nine walks and a .500 slugging percentage across 15 games played.
• Reached base 18 times in his first five career games, establishing a new MLB record for a player’s first five games since 1901. Also became the first player since 1901 to reach base three-or-more times in each of his first five career games.
• Joined Yermín Mercedes (2021) as the only players since 1933 to record a five-hit performance within his first three career Major League games.
• Did not register a swing and miss in any of his first five big league contests, while seeing 115 pitches at the plate. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that marked the longest streak of pitches without a swing and miss for a batter to start his career since 2000, besting the previous mark in that span of 100 by David Fletcher.
