Cleveland - The Cleveland Browns are under investigation after claims from former head coach Hue Jackson that he was paid to lose games during his time as the Browns head coach. Jackson claimed on Twitter he was paid to lose games by Browns owner Jimmy Haslem. The claims were made after former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said he was offered 100 thousand dollars per loss during the 2019 season.

Hue Jackson was hired as the Browns head coach for the 2016 season. Under Jackson, the Browns went 1-15 in 2016 then followed that up with a 0-16 season in 2017. In 2018 the team started 2-5-1, Jackson was let go after a 33-18 loss to the Steelers. In two and a half years as the teams head coach, the Browns went 3-36-1.

Hue Jackson would later recant what he said in his tweets. But the NFL is still looking into the statements made by Jackson. The claims are being investigated by SEC Chair Mary Jo White of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.

an NFL spokesperson said, "The review is ongoing and expected to conclude soon."

The team released a statement Monday night, saying it has worked with the league on its review.

“Even though Hue recanted his allegations a short time after they were made, it was important to us and to the integrity of the game to have an independent review of the allegations, We welcomed an investigation and we are confident the results will show, as we’ve previously stated, that these allegations are categorically false. We have cooperated with Mary Jo White and look forward to the findings.”
