GOODYEAR, AZ - The Cleveland Guardians announced the signing of free agent pitcher Bryan Shaw to a Major League contract for the 2022 season. Shaw, 34, enters his 7th season with the Guardians organization, coming off a 2021 campaign in Cleveland in which he appeared in a Major League-leading 81 games, also the most in club history in a single season, surpassing his own previous club record of 80 games in 2014.
Shaw is the Cleveland franchise leader in career relief appearances (459 games) and has led the American League in games pitched four times in his career, all with Cleveland. Drafted in the 2nd round (No. 73 overall) of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft by Arizona, the right-hander was originally acquired by Cleveland via a 3-team trade from the Diamondbacks in December 2012.
Shaw was with Cleveland from 2013-17 before spending two seasons with Colorado (2018-19) and a year with Seattle (2020). Cleveland has now signed him as a free agent in back-to-back off seasons (2021 & '22).
