Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., questioned Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson about an article she wrote as a law student at Harvard about sentencing of sex offenders as the Senate Judiciary Committee continued its Supreme Court confirmation hearings March 22.
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson used the second day of her confirmation hearing to defend her history of sentencing child abusers.
Jackson was asked to address her alleged leniency in sentencing child sex offenders.
As a mother and a judge who has had to deal with these cases, I was thinking that nothing could be further from the truth,” Jackson said.
Jackson told the committee about sharing the hurt caused by the offenses with the defendents.
“I tell them about the adults who are former child sex abuse victims, tell me that they will never have a normal adult relationship because of this abuse," Jackson shared. "I tell them about the ones who say, 'I went into prostitution, I fell into drugs because I was trying to suppress the hurt that was done to me as an as an infant.' ”
