(East Cleveland) - One of Greater Cleveland's most historic companies, and company sites, has been sold.
The General Electric Lighting Division in East Cleveland has been sold to Savant Systems Incorporated. The G.E. Lighting Division's headquarters will stay in East Cleveland at NELA Park along with the G.E. Brand on its products. 700 employees will keep their jobs, along with employees at manufacturing plants in Bucyrus and Logan.
G.E., the company co-founded by Thomas Edison, will now focus more on areas such as renewable energy and health care technology.
The great news for residents of Northeast Ohio? G.E.'s NELA Park Holiday lights will continue to shine for years to come.
