(Columbus) - The 16th president of The Ohio State University will be Kristina Johnson. Dr. Johnson, announced Wednesday by the university, will succeed Michael Drake, who announced late in 2019 his intention to retire.
Dr. Johnson has 30 years experience in higher education, and is currently chancellor of the 64-campus State University of New York system. She was also undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Energy under President Barack Obama.
She has family ties to OSU and Ohio, as her grandfather is an 1896 OSU graduate, and he played football for the Buckeyes in the late 19th century.
Dr. Johnson will begin her tenure as OSU president September 1.
