(Columbus) - Some state legislators want to make permanent one of the rules set up by the State of Ohio during the pandemic. Namely, the one that allows you to get carryout alcoholic drinks.
The rule that was implemented during the pandemic, when takeout meals were the only ones allowed at restaurants, also allowed you to purchase up to two drinks per serving of food. They have to be in sealed containers.
Under House Bill 669, sponsored by Reps. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) and Jeff LaRe (R-Violet Township), restaurants, bars, breweries, micro-distilleries, and wineries would be allowed to sell drinks in sealed cups, or to sell the product in its original sealed container. This bill would allow no limits on takeout drinks, except from micro-distilleries.
It would also allow dining delivery services, such as Uber Eats and Grub Hub to deliver these drinks.
Any business selling such takeout drinks would still have to get proof that the buyer is at least 21 years old.
