(Columbus) - The State of Ohio has its first shipment of a drug that has shown promise in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, the federal government sent Ohio 20 cases of remdesivir, enough to treat 100 patients. The Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Hospital Association will determine how and where the drug will be distributed.
Tests on remdesivir have shown it may have "potential activity" against COVID-19. Some of those tests indicate that it has shortened hospital stays for some COVID-19 patients.
The Food and Drug Administration has given an emergency use authorization for remdesivir.
