NEW YORK, NY -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a tough team to beat since beginning their road trip in Washington on Friday night. The young Cavaliers team has been improving each game, and have not trailed in a game in eight consecutive quarters. Collin Sexton had the hot hand for the Cvs, scoring a career high 31 points in a Cavaliers rout of the New York Knicks. Cleveland rolled past New York by the final score of 108-87, marking 11 straight victories for the Cavaliers in Madison Square Garden.
Sexton scored a quick 9 points to jumpstart the Cavs to an early lead. The Cavaliers offense was smooth flowing on Sunday night, shooting an efficient 43% from the field. Cleveland was also sound on the defensive side of the ball, holding the Knicks to under 90 points, and keeping rookie guard RJ Barrett uncomfortable for most of the game. Barrett shot 4-11 from the field, scoring only 9 total points. Cleveland forced New York into 21 total turnovers, which was a big difference maker for the visiting Cavaliers.
Cavaliers' big man Tristan Thompson got off to a slow start, as he netted his first field goal in the fourth quarter. Thompson came up just shy of a double-double, scoring 9 and pulling in 9 boards. Cleveland rookie guard Darius Garland struggled to find a rhythm shooting the ball, but was the perfect floor general, dropping 6 assists on the Knicks. Kevin Love dropped 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Jordan Clarkson continues to be dynamite off the bench, contributing 17 points.
Cleveland will continue their three-game road trip as they will head to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers. Cavs and 76ers will square off on Wednesday, tip off set for 7:00 pm ET at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Check out highlights from today's win below!
