The suspect who allegedly shot six Philadelphia police officers and holed up inside a building for hours has been taken into custody, according to the police department. The department said the man was in custody and a SWAT team was clearing the house just after midnight Thursday. The resolution ended a day marked by frightening violence caught live by overhead helicopters in the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Tioga-Nicetown as the man fired wildly at police officers, who were seen diving for cover behind cruisers and evacuating injured comrades. The suspect, who has been identified by police, surrendered peacefully to authorities, and was seen exiting the building with his hands raised.

There is no doubt the Philadelphia Police Department performed exceptionally. However, many people, including the Mayor of Philadelphia Jim Kenney, are wondering why the department was even put in that position to begin with. Americans remain flabbergasted that their government hasn't reacted while bodies are piling up.
