On an afternoon in mid-July the world stopped in its tracks and listened to Walter Cronkite narrate the final act one of the greatest stories in human history. When astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins became the first people in human history to walk on a planet other than their own, the country and the world were united in a way seldom seen.
Fast forward a half century.
At a campaign rally in Greenville, North Carolina Wednesday night, President Trump doubled down on his criticism of the four freshmen congresswomen whom he had tweeted should "go back" where they came from. Then he broadened his attack on what he called "hate filled extremists" on the left, telling the crowd "If they don't love it, tell 'em to leave it!"
At one point the crowd chanted "Send them back."
At a campaign rally for the incumbent President Of The United States, Americans were chanting "Send Her Back" about a member of the House Of Representatives. Where men like Cronkite and Armstrong united the country, President Trump seems to be doing his best to divide it. As bad as the rhetoric his supporters are using about Ilhan Omar (D-MI) and other members of congress, what is even worse is that The President has done nothing to stop it: even supporting it at times.
